I know I've been going on about a lot of different Kickstarter's
lately, but I'm about to do it again.
But, let me preface that with a statement about my views on Kickstarter
. I find Kickstarter
both infuriating and fantastic all at once. In part, I like the idea of crowdfunding
a lot. I think it gives potential creative endeavors a platform where they might get created when otherwise they either wouldn't or couldn't. That's the fantastic thing about Kickstarter
. The infuriating thing about Kickstarter
is that you never can tell whether something is going to fund or not. There are a lot of great projects that just don't get the exposure or the funding they deserve.
Whether it's one of my projects or somebody else's, go out and support a creative project. And I'm not
talking somebody who already has a massive following and can afford to fund and create their own project themselves already, I'm talking about one of the little guys who could use your support to bring their project to life.
This is largely why I'm a big fan of Kickstarter.
With that said, over the summer I became the Art Director for a small start-up called Noble Beast
. Noble Beast
is an interactive book publisher. We develop interactive books for mobile devices with a focus in genre fiction, especially science fiction and fantasy.
Our first book just came out in October, Steampunk Holmes
. It's been getting great reviews so far and is a perfect example of what we're doing!
Anyway, all our books are illustrated. All the characters are illustrated. A scene illustration per chapter, along with interactive maps, and mechanical break downs of objects or items. You'll be able to click on the name of any character and be able to pull up info about that character and a picture (just as an example). There is also some ambient sound to go with the experience as well.
Sounds pretty cool, right?
Well, one of our first major projects is taking many of the Classics
and giving them a sci-fi or fantasy twist. We're calling this line of books Noble Beast Classics
. We have over 30 creators involved in this project and if it comes together, it will be absolutely excellent. Not only am I Art Directing the whole thing, but I'll also be illustrating a story myself. I'll be working with Ellie Ann Soderstrom
, our Director of Publishing
, on an adaptation of The Three Musketeers
. I'll post some promo art I've generated for it as well. Ellie is a fantastic writer and I think this is going to be a damn good story - I hope we have the opportunity to do it.
We're currently running a Kickstarter to fund this first line of Noble Beast Classics. We need your help to make it happen.
Please head over, check it out, and please, help us fund this line of books!
Thank you in advance!
