Shotgun by JerMohler Shotgun by JerMohler
This is a cover I did for Scott Colby's novel, Shotgun.

This is also my very first fully digital piece I've ever done! If you have any interest in seeing the process and the final cover treatment, head over to [link] . It was a lot of fun because it let me get back to a more inked approach. I was able to spot some blacks, which I don't usually do, so the piece has a little different feel to it, which I dig.

Also, if you are interested in finding more out about his book, check it out here - [link]

Thanks!

Is this an homage to Frank Frazetta, bro?

Very cool, Jer.

Followed the link.

Jer, I'm absolutely impressed with the all out effort you have made over the last 5 years or so to market yourself, and move towards making a living from you art. I'm beginning to see you everywhere, bro... very cool.

Hey Robert!

Thanks man! I try to keep marketing myself - it's a requirement for any freelancer, to be honest. You have to keep working, keep evolving, and keep yourself out there where people can find you. I'm also glad to hear that you are seeing me everywhere - but I'm curious just where you are seeing me?

Thanks again! I have always appreciated your support!

Well, to be honest, many of the instances where I have seen you in a new location have been as a direct result of you indicating a new place where your work, or you yourself can be seen. However, over the last several years, I have been pleasantly surprised a number of times to come across a collection of your work, an interview with you, a critique or review of your art or one of your sites, etc., when browsing a comics, books or art related site, when I did not travel to the site looking for you at all.

Here's a little factoid for you, though: I did a search on Google before penning this response. Did you know that if you type "Jeremy Mohler" into the search field, the first full three pages are all about you? You have to go to the fourth page before a reference to a Jeremy Mohler who isn't you is listed.

Pretty cool, bro.

Wonderful, especially with the type on it.

It was interesting reading about your process here. But now I'm confused! Do you usually not ink your work and color our pencils? Does that mean the lines in your Haven pages are pencil? Could you maybe elaborate a bit on your "usual" process in another blog post?

Hey Alexander! Thanks for the kind words.

I'm also glad you liked the version with the type - I don't consider myself a graphic designer, to be honest, so I'm always a little unsure how stuff with type will turn out.

And to answer your question - the Haven pages were all done in pencil. Very tight, open line, with a .03 mechanical pencil filled with HB lead. I haven't actually inked a piece for years.

You can probably roll back through a lot of my posts on my own website www.jeremymohler.com and find some posts talking about my usual process, but I'll get something new together soon as well.

Thanks for the interest!
