Well, I'm sorry it's been so long since I last updated here. I've been more than a little overwhelmed with life lately. There has just been SO much going on, it's been hard to keep everything updated - between projects, personal life, and work, it's hard to get a spare moment to do anything. And so much of what I've been doing lately I really cannot show. So, I don't even have the luxury of just posting artwork.
I think it's time for a report!
First, it kind of happened suddenly, but I am now living with and engaged to a pretty amazing woman. We match up in a lot of ways and my personal life has really never been so consistently good. I feel pretty damn fortunate. Emily and I are also working on a project together, but, more about that later...
Secondly, I am having my first solo art show coming up on Friday, April 3rd. It will be held at the Collective Art Gallery in Topeka. If you are nearby and want to come, let me know and I'll get you some information about it.
Last, I'll be at Planet Comicon [link] in Kansas City this coming weekend. It was sort of a last minute decision, but I will be there with art and prints. Come out and say hello, please!
Anyway - projects. Where do I start?
1. Baeg Tobar - this is my baby and I'm sure you remember it somewhat. Well, you can see pretty much all that is going on here - [link] . That is the blog and it pretty much lists out everything going on with the project.
We have several MMOG in the works (one that my friend Manfred Kooistra may be developing - [link]). One of the MMOG's is in beta test now, so hopefully that will be ready to launch with the site also.
I have a web-comic in development and planned for at least a year that I will be coloring (and most likely lettering) and Alan Gallo is drawing.
We have a full print comic penciled (again, by Alan Gallo - [link]) - I just need to find time to color/letter that and work on shopping it around (so it may be a while before that sees the light of day, though we will probably run it on the BT website at least).
We have a novel (The Unmade Man, by Daniel Tyler Gooden) that will serve as the prelude to the web-comic (which will be the "main" storyline for the project), and TONS of short fiction.
EVERYTHING ties into the main web-comic - so as we release the web-comic pages, there will be short stories that tie into it that will be released as well with illustrations. The novel is the prelude and will be illustrated (though not needed to enjoy the web-comic). The prelude is the story of the Emperor Pileaus, who dies at the beginning of the web-comic. He's a pretty important figure in the world, so his story will be good to be told.
Oh, and we have a tabletop RPG nearly finished. I just need to get the art generated for it and, again, find a publisher.
The idea is to immerse the readers into the world fully with all these different things. Hopefully we can also combine print and web media in a way it really hasn't been done before. I like the idea of putting out a print comic and for the people that really love it, they can go online and get a ton of more content, much of which will be free. And vice-versa. We'll have web updates every day of the work week (none on Saturday or Sunday), so there will always be new content on the site.
This is why my buddy Matt Jacobs and I formed Outland Entertainment - to generate these fully immersible worlds. Which leads me too...
2. WMD - this is a project that my buddy Jeff Wamester ([link]) created. His artwork is absolutely brilliant. Anyway, he's created this really amazing world and we're going to get behind it to help him generate the material - Matt is also a writer, so he's helping to write the story, I'm going to do layouts and color, and Jeff is going to draw and ink it. I may also end up lettering it. It should update a half a page a week once we launch, and we'll be working on other content. It should be really great, though.
4. Warlord - this is a web-comic that Jeff (Wamester) and I are working on. It's based on the CCG by the same name. I got the gig and pulled Jeff in to draw it - I'm doing layouts and coloring. That was on hold for a while, but we're getting ready to get it started up again.
5. Pearson - a text book company that I've been doing some work for. I just finished up my first job for them - six full color illustrations (which I cannot show yet) and I already have a second job pending. There are talks of getting a whole text book job in April, which might be a years worth of work. I'm hoping for it! It would be SO nice to have a whole year planned out.
6. Inuit - for the last several years, I've been illustrating a variety of Inuit based stories. Lot's of short stories with illustrations, character/creature concept art, and at the end of last year I did my first full comic. I have 10 more illustrations coming up due shortly and we're supposed to do the second issue of the comic later this year. We'll see. And again, cannot show the comic yet.
7. And last, the Blacklands - this is the story that Emily and I are working on. It takes place a little after the end of the Civil War. It'll end up being a sort of dystopic western. Some years back, I had this crazy dream about these monsters falling from the sky, so that's how this project will open up. The main part of the story will take place some years after that, though. It should be fun, though - and Emily is seriously an amazing writer, so I'm really looking forward to getting this running. We're going to submit it to [link] (DC Comics online comics contest) and hopefully with a positive result. I'll post up the main characters - Virgil and Lorelle. They change a lot after the prelude, but this is them at the start of the story.
Well, that's basically it for now. Lot's of things to be working on. And, I hope I can post some more stuff in the near future!
Hope all is well!
Commissions
I'm always happy to talk commissions. I don't have a set price for anything because each piece is unique and poses a new set of issues. What you can count on is that a piece with an extensive background or multiple figures will be more expensive. Color too. Just PM me details and we'll talk it over.
(I have been wanting to do some superhero type stuff, but it's hard to find the time between paying work to just do it for fun. So, if you are wanting something along those lines, I would be willing to consider a discount. Just PM me and we can talk.)
For Sale
Most of the artwork I've posted is for sale. Most pieces have a price listed in the description. If there is no price, shoot me a PM and we'll talk (as I may have missed putting it up or it may not be available).
Prints
Just about all of my color work is available as a print. All prints are signed and dated and run $15 per print or two for $25. That includes shipping and handling.
