Baeg Tobar: In search of a couple more artists...

Mon Jun 1, 2009, 2:27 PM
Okay folks,

We are gearing up to get my project Baeg Tobar up and running, and hence, launched. We've got a LOT of very interesting things happening with the project and I have a feeling it is going to be something that is going to be a lot of fun to be involved in.

For starters, you can go here and read a short teaser about what the main storyline is all about - [link]

If that interests you, you might go ahead and check out the blog, which has various odds and ends about what we're doing and planning for the relaunch. As well as a lot of artwork and story snippets. Previews galore. Blog here - [link]

What we need...
What we need are a few more artists to round out the art line-up. Once the site is up and running, we are going to need at least three pieces of artwork per week - one to illustrate the Resource Guide entry we are posting, one to illustrate the short fiction story that is being posted, and one to illustrate the novel chapter being posted that week.

What I am trying to do is organize things in such a way that each artist involved only has to complete around a quarter page piece of artwork every few weeks. Which means we are going to need a few more people contributing than what we have.

Art Style
In terms of the artwork itself, we are looking for two things - a specific art style and high quality work. A good example of the style we are shooting for is my own artwork, seen right here on these pages. I want an open line style (which can be tight pencils like I do or inks) with no spotted blacks. The color style will be a sort of cell shaded style, again, like I work.

Examples of current Baeg Tobar artwork can be seen on the blog - [link]

Several things to be noted - this work is pretty detailed and has a more realistic approach. Additionally, for the most part the work I need will have/require backgrounds. Again, take a look at my work as an example and look over the artwork on the BT blog to get an idea of the kind of work I'm looking for.

What we can offer...
As of right now, we don't have a lot to offer in terms of hard cash - our rates are pretty low. Which has put me in this dilemma. What I can offer, however, is a trade of services.

My business partner, Matt Jacobs, and I have developed a pretty amazing Content Management System (CMS) that would allow you to manage your entire site from one central interface. It is set up to have galleries (with auto generating thumbnails), static pages for content, a blog, and even an online store to sell your artwork or prints. So, it offers a lot of flexibility and you don't have to rely on anybody but yourself to maintain your site.

Anyway, we would cover the design, the set-up of the CMS, and we would be available for any support/questions you might have. The only things you would need to cover would be your domain and hosting (though we do offer both services, it's just better for you to pay for that as it is recurring).

So, we could set up an entirely unique site for you that you can maintain on your own. You can even host it through us, so everything is in one central location and you don't have to deal with a bunch of different services.

In closing...
If you are interested and you think you can fit the look/quality level we are aiming for, please shoot me an email to jeremy@baegtobar.com. Please include your rates and let me know if you have any questions. If you need samples of sites that we have done, please let me know and I'll provide those.

Hope to hear from you!

Hey that sounds cool, I'm interested but I don't know if my style is what your looking for but I will work for free or for trade. Anyway if you like take a look at my gallery, I have some sequential art but not a lot because I don't have a good story yet.

I'd love to join up, but spotted blacks are often my bread and butter! Damn that Frank Miller and Chris Bachalo influence! Though, after a little more time studying Seth Fisher, I may have to set the blacks aside for the time being!

I also want to talk to you about your web CMS thing--sounds like exactly what I need for the next phase of the Zomboid Comics© take-over that's coming along.

Thanks! I'll take a look.

Projects have been on hold since my shoulder went splat. It's been 3 weeks since surgery, so I plan to hit the board this weekend and try to get back into shape!
